Host Organism : chicken (barrier reared), i.p. inoculation chicken
Incubation : Duration: 4 months or longer
Effect : Yes, in vivo effects: Erythroblastosis or visceral lymphomatosis; death
Comments : Strain RPL 12 produces 4 principal types of lesions in chickens: erythroblastosis, visceral lymphomatosis, osteopetrosis and hemangiomatosis. Fibrosarcomas, nephromas, and endotheliomas are produced in chick embryos (i.v.). Avian Leukosis Virus is the Type Species of the Avian Type C Retrovirus Group. This preparation, of archival interest, is likely a mixture of viruses. Propagation in TC would introduce inapropriate selective pressure.
